I like to reminisce about the days when I had free weekends and, well, free time. Right now my free time is usually absorbed in being exhausted and unwilling to even contemplate completing or researching wedding crafts. I open up Pinterest and my chest tightens with anxiety. Totally overwhelming. According to Pinterest I should be cooking amazing dinners, baking incredibly decadent deserts, working on my six pack of abs (and toned strapless dress-ready arms), stockpiling a week's worth of healthy snacks for work, all while planning the most mind-blowing, handmade wedding in the world and secretly pinning crafts that will someday make me a super mom when I've popped out some kids. Oh and let's not forget about my real job where I work 50+ hours a week and grade stacks of AP World History essays. Because on top of all of this I am expected to be an amazing teacher. Seriously ladies, I don't know how you can spend any amount of time on Pinterest without feeling like life's biggest failure.
But hey, we're making it work over here! We got some stuff done. Want to hear about it? Good, because I want to tell you about it so I can feel better about our wedding planning progress. I might not have visible abs, but by God I've gotten some wedding stuff accomplished!
Mr. C puts our save-the-dates into the mail! |
Things we've crossed off the to-do list:
- We did a total 180 in our honeymoon plans and started from scratch in January. The destination has been chosen and plane tickets have been bought. Hotel reservations are next. More on this later!
- We researched and booked a rehearsal dinner site.
- We have rooms blocked out at two separate hotels in town.
- Our save-the-dates have been designed, printed, and mailed. Invites (yet to be designed) will go out eight weeks prior to the wedding.
- We bought a domain and created a wedding website which is currently up and running.
- We started a wedding registry with MyRegistry.com which has allowed us to include items from across the internet.
- My bridesmaids are purchasing their dresses (all mismatched in our wedding colors).
- We made inquiries about a potential wedding favor.
- Bachelorette party stuff is happening. I'm not sure what exactly, but dates have been chosen and hotels are being booked.
- We met with the venue/caterer (it's both in one) in January and created a rough floor plan, event timeline, and finalized our menu.
- We chose one of two readings (and reader) for the ceremony.
- I ordered aisle decor.
The final product, nicely printed and packaged by moo.com! |
Stuff that has not been done (that probably should be done, or should be at least started)
- I have no bridal accessories or shoes. (uuugh)
- No dress fitting or alterations have been completed.
- No wedding bands.
- I have spoken to someone about wedding day hair but not made an official appointment.
- No make up artist.
- Mr. C and groomsmen have no suits. But we have an idea and are trying to move forward with it.
- We have not spoken with the officiant (one of Mr. C's close friends) about our ceremony.
- Probably a million other things I don't want to think about right now.
And that is where we stand. Wedding planning is a Sisyphean task; it seems for every thing you cross off your list, five things are added. But I think we are making some serious progress here. I keep reminding myself that even though I am insanely busy now, teaching two different classes (one for the first time, hence all the time I spend planning and reading), sponsoring two different school clubs, taking an online reading certification class, planning the wedding -- come June it will be summer and Mr. C and I will be married. I am so glad we are having our wedding right after school gets out. That means we can sit back and relax and enjoy our summer. And I'm going to read books for fun and sit by the pool and sleep and sleep and sleep.
Well spring brides, where are you at in your planning journey? Am I stupidly far behind or does it just feel that way?
